November/December 2007
These two piano trios are memorably good, and make one eager to explore more of [Andreae's] music. The first trio is Brahmsian, and the second trio adds hints of French impressionism. Both are played with sensitivity and a sense that the musicians are listening keenly to each other.

Both Trios open with an immediately endearing main theme and their invention throughout is consistently memorable. Accomplished and warm-hearted performances by the ideally balanced Locrian Trio, and the recording is first class. If you enjoy the chamber music of Brahms and Dvořák, I urge you to try this coupling; you won't be disappointed.

Rita Manning, Justin Pearson and Kathy Rockhill are solid musicians and it is obvious that they listen very closely to each other. The blend and the balance are excellent. I can imagine this music played more effusively, but I don’t think that it needs it; Andreae’s paired lilies need no gilding.

The playing of the Locrian Ensemble is sensitive to the composer’s idiom, and champions his cause...If you like your chamber music with a Brahmsian feel, not too heavily romantic and wallowing but with plenty of expressive lyrical line and musical ‘oomph’, then this release deserves your attention.
August 2007
The Locrian Ensemble...plays with restrained passion and pure-toned eloquence that strikes right to the heart of these elusive yet richly rewarding scores. Manning and Pearson demonstrate a special empathy for Andreae’s yearning phrases...In even the most heated passages they tantalisingly maintain an appropriate chamber scale.

The recording is excellent with beautifully rounded piano tone and exceptionally smooth strings. Romantic chamber music fans and audiophiles alike will be delighted!
