This performance is not put in the shade by comparison with the work's dedicatee, Fred Sherry...the recorded sound has a winning combination of depth and immediacy.

The contrasting works make an excellent coupling; and soloist Jan Vogler is a wonder whether scurrying in fury or collapsing in lyrical sighs. Taken from a live concert, the recordings have great presence, and Kristjan Järvi’s handling of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra is exceptionally sharp.
