About

Hallén was a true Wagnerian - but most of his works are or a rather more intimate scale. Gustaf Wasa may have been king during a period of war and unrest in Sweden, but the suite that comes from this play is more subdued and peaceful. The other pieces are also rather intimate, and Hallén's orchestration is very skillful and individual. The opening piece, Romanze, betrays a debt to Hallén's teacher Reinecke.
