About
The Authentic Quartet, founded in 2002, are renowned in their native Hungary for combining familiar works by Haydn and Mozart with those by lesser known composers of the period such as Gregor Joseph Werner and Johann Georg Albrechtsberger. Between 1715/6 Werner served as Organist as the famous Abbey at Melk and in 1728 was appointed Kapellmeister to Prince Esterhazy, a position he held until supplanted by the young Haydn in 1761. Werner’s Fugues are believed to date from c1735. Albrechtsberger had also been organist at Melk before settling in Vienna in 1765 where he was employed as Court Organist. Hugely prolific, Albrechtsberger composed a vast quantities of church and keyboard music; his many concertos are also becoming increasingly familiar.
