Pierre-Dominique Ponnelle is a conductor and composer. From 1992 to 1996 he worked with the Belarus State Philharmonic in Minsk and has conducted many other orchestras. He composed his first string quartet in 2005, in response to a request from musicians in the Bashkir National Symphony. The second quartet was written a year later, after a concert tour through central Asia.
