Cummings doesn't miss a detail: every trill and ornament is realised with the utmost clarity and his expertly balanced playing manages the rare feat of making the melody lines truly cantabile. Without fail, Cummings strikes the perfect combination of joyful characterisation and unfussy good taste.

Cummings is more measured and grave [than Pinnock], but the cumulative effect of the eight suites (especially the seventh, with its tremendous Passacaglia) is quite wonderful – this is like Handel playing to you in your own living room.
