Korngold: Violanta, Op. 8
What strength and beauty [Marton] had in 1980! Siegfried Jerusalem, too, was on peak form...Walter Berry oozes his usual authority...all the glitter and occasional strangeness of the lush score...

July 2010

What strength and beauty [Marton] had in 1980! Siegfried Jerusalem, too, was on peak form...Walter Berry oozes his usual authority...all the glitter and occasional strangeness of the lush score comes across under Janowski's impeccably paced direction.

1st December 2014

Fifteenth-century Venice is the setting for this early, one-act opera concerning Violanta's attempts to avenge the death of her sister by murdering Alfonso, the Prince of Naples. Eva Marton is perfect in the title role, with first-rate support from Walter Berry as her husband Simone and Siegfried Jerusalem as the unlucky Alfonso. Marek Janowski conducts the Münchner Rundfunkorchester.
