About
Ars Nova is a generic term attributed to French composer Philippe de Vitry describing the musical language to develop during the early 14th C. This CD celebrates the Ars Nova from the Low Countries, using manuscripts found as recently as the 2oth C and showcasing the path to European polyphony ultimately ending with JS Bach.

…music that was plainly known and performed there around 1400. Nicely organised according to the four seasons, this amounts to a pleasing and varied anthology performed at a very high professional level, though the copious booklet material may not make it easier for the listener to know what is local and what not.
