The arrangements… are very free-sometimes intimate and charming with delicate use of woodwind (as in "Es steht ein Lind" introduced by a slinky bass clarinet), sometimes trumpet-led, extrovert and exuberant. By the time we get to "Erlaube mir, feins Mädchen" the group is all but swinging like a sophisticated jazz ensemble, while the glowing soprano voices in the closing "In stiller Nacht" are lusciously delightful. The performances are of a high standard and the recording of demonstration quality.
