About

The latest release in the Ballet Russe series featuring two of the most famous scores ever commissioned for dance in the 20th century. Also on this release is Florent Schmitt’s sadly neglected “Tragedie de Salome” with its fusion of Rimsky-Korsakov’s exoticism and the impressionism of Debussy and Ravel.

November 2009

A wonderfully moulded, vibrant performance of Schmitt's La tragédie de Salomé is framed by a fine account of Prélude a l'après-midi d'un faune and a Petrushka that is colourful, but lacks a little bite.

January 2009

To my ears, Florent Schmitt’s La Tragédie de Salomé is the treat on this CD. Here’s a bit of decadence more dangerous than Richard Strauss’s: its surface is so attractive, one might be tempted to dive right in…to be overcome by its delicious poison!
