About
Music and hunting were pursued with enormous passion at the courts of Mannheim and Darmstadt. Johann Samuel Endler’s Symphony No. 11 was written for the edification of the Count at his hunting lodge. Abbé Vogler takes up the hunting theme in his ballet "Les rendez-vous de chasse" as does Joseph Haydn in his Symphony "La Chasse". Mozart is more subtle in his Horn Concerto No. 1, although the solo horn sound means that hunting is never far from the mind.
