The fractured textures in 'durch' - a mosaic of breathy exhalations and prepared piano sounds coloured by the sympathetic resonances from gongs - and the etiolated glissandi that make up much of the string trio ...zu..., both immediately suggest connections with the sound world of Helmut Lachenmann.It's certainly a strange mixture, distinctive and with its own musical integrity, but resolutely uninvolving.
