The Concordia violists perform superbly, responsive to each other and matching expressively every nuance of melodic pattern and emotion...an outstanding start to a much-needed reappraisal of one of the brightest stars in the firmament of English music.

The viol scholar David Pinto has recently suggested that these these pieces may actually form a set of "enigma" variations. The jury's still out on this intriguing theory, but the performances here offer a real sense of journey through the set. It's a trip I shall often want to make. Highly recommended
