About

Yet, toward the end of the century, especially in the 1690s, new forms and expressive values made their way to Germany from France, the sonata da chiesa and da camera à la Corelli, the concerto à la Torelli and Vivaldi, as well as the madrigalian cantata, whose main components are the recitative and the da capo aria. These are the genres that end the experimental phase in German music, and prepare the stage for Germany´s most important composer of the first half of the eighteenth century: Johann Sebastian Bach.

The programmatic goal of the present CD is to introduce the genres cantata, concerto, and sonata, employing – as far as possible – works that have a connection to Johann Sebastian Bach´s Weimar period (1707-1717).
