About
From the date of its premiere in 1868 to the present day, Brahms’ moving early masterwork has spoken to generations of listeners. The work, originally conceived as a memorial for the composer’s own mother, is addressed to the living, offer a message of consolation and hope. Few conductors have approached this oft too familiar score with the sense of awe and reverence as that of Schuricht. A very special dimension of this CD is the magisterial performance of a young Hermann Prey.
