About

La Rota is a Montréal-based quartet that has garnered acclaim for its creative presentation of medieval music, and consists of Sarah Barnes, soprano; Tobie Miller, recorder and hurdy-gurdy; Émilie Brûlé, vielle; and Esteban La Rotta, lute and harp. Formed in 2002, the group has met with praise for its rich sound, instrumental virtuosity, and mastery of medieval improvisation. Early Music America selected La Rota as the winner of its 2006 Medieval/Renaissance music competition for North American artists, a prize that includes a performance spot at the 2007 Boston Early Music Festival. La Rota’s debut recording Heu Fortuna features music from the time of medieval French monarch Philippe the Fair (1268-1314).
