Started in 1991 by the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, under Lorraine Vaillancourt’s leadership, this biennial event is presented in collaboration with the Music Faculty the University of Montreal and the Société Radio-Canada.

As a whole, Forum represents over 90 hours of public rehearsals, seven meetings over meals, seven miniature analytical forums, profiles, a discussion table, and concerts. At the end of it all, the NEM premiered the works that, recorded by the Société Radio-Canada, were part of the event “Montréal Cité de la musique,” a broadcast produced by the state radio and later made available to all the European radios through European Broadcasting Union.
