About
Lennart Hedwall (born in Gothenburg in 1932) studied at the Royal University College of Music in Stockholm. From the middle of the 1950s, he has worked in a variety of musical roles: organist, piano accompanist, and music director of different theatres and the Örebro Orchestral Society, as well as guest conducting many orchestras in Sweden and abroad. At the beginning of the 1950s he was part of the avant-garde wing of the younger generation of Swedish composers. With time, his expressive register has broadened and his music has become more linear and freely tonal, often with a lyrical bent. Vocal music is something to wich he has often devoted himself throughout his career. He is inclined to see a romance as musical central poetry and even as a form of a page taken from a diary, a picture of the atmosphere of the moment. Hedwall has produced music in most musical genres. Over a span of more than 50 years, he has composed over 300 songs, mostly to texts by important Swedish writers, he has written two operas, orchestral works, solo concertos for oboe, cello and flute, works for string orchestra and works for different types of solo ensembles.
