About

This new SACD is devoted to eighteenth-century French music. The recording of the overture, including the dance interlude from Jean-Philippe Rameau’s Castor et Pollux, first performed at the Académie Royale de Musique in 1737, captures the essence of the most performed opera of the eighteenth century.

Awards and reviews

February 2009

The Orfeo Baroque Orchestra give a vibrant performance of the Rameau. Gaigg is a decisive leader who encourages her colleagues to brandish their bows and clip the dotted notes with breathtaking panache… percussionist Rogerio Gonçalves provides wonderful rhythmic counterpoint. ...strikingly idiosyncratic performances.
