Listening to this well-filled disc was like a walk on which one meets a medley of old friends, each one much loved but encountered all too seldom in recent years given the number of new acquaintances one has to deal with. And each of these old friends seen, as it were, in familiar clothes offers two qualities in short supply in the repertoire on this disc today - tone properly produced and quite untroubled by wobble and, in most cases, a command of legato and its concomitant portamento ... the transfers are excellent.
