The two pieces to make up this disc are closely related to life at Notre-Dame Cathedral. Composed 100 years apart, both show that the Mass and its liturgical text are an endless source of inspiration. Louis Vierne’s Messe solennelle for two choirs and organ was premiered in 1900, exactly 100 years before Jean-Pierre Leguay’s Missa Deo Gratias but have in common that they both drew their inspiration from one of the world’s major spiritual centres. Leguay’s Missa was originally written for children’s choir, mixed choir and
two organs but has later been replaced by a solo soprano in place of the children’s choir.
