Proms 2007

…these are full-blooded performances that leave the listener in no doubt as to the music's fervour and urgency. In the Wanderer Trio's hands, the coda of the D minor Trio's first movement is almost overwhelming in its driving energy… The opening movement in the C minor companion-piece has a sweeping energy that seems to be invited by the wave-like rise and fall of its main subject, but at the same time the performance leaves room for a moment of mysterious relaxation in the central development section.

October 2007

Beautiful playing and sound - a treat if you prefer less extrovert Mendelssohn. The D minor Trio is particularly impressive… with a suitably light-as-air Scherzo, plenty of resolute playing in the opening movement and a dreamily spin line in the slow one.

Robert Schumann

This is the modern masterpiece in the trio genre, just as Beethoven's trios in B flat and D and Franz Schubert's E flat trio were in their time; an extremely fine composition which in years to come will still delight our grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
