Awards and reviews

April 2007

Britten's short period with the GPO Film Unit and other similar organisations proved to be key training for his musico-dramatic skills. The performances, by the BCMG and assorted choirs and soloists, are first-rate.

Writing film scores quickly, for strictly limited performance forces, was an inestimable professional training, as was collaboration with Auden. The results, as laid out in this 10-part sequence, are fascinating.
