In the first movement of Sonata No 24, I love Anne-Sophie Mutter's crisp attack, her tempered sweetness of line, subtle punctuation… and the sudden… flight of her fast passagework. To be honest there were times when I longed for something less interventionist, a Grumiaux or a Goldberg; and yet always one senses an inventive and intelligent mind at work, probing, re-thinking, refining and occasionally confronting a bold interpretative idea without refining her view of it, or at least that's how it sounds. Lambert Orkis is in general the cooler, more temperate player, which is no bad thing.

Bold, inventive and probing - a superb demonstration of the sheer range of Mutter's tonal palette, and a fascinating listen. Lambert Orkis is a fine musical collaborator.
