I can think of no piece of music that evokes more aromatically the magnificence of life at the 17th-century court of the Sun King, Louis XIV, than the scintillating Prélude to the most sumptuously scored of Charpentier's several settings of the Te Deum. Tubéry...with graceful phrasing, achieves... a devotional eloquence enhanced by his notably refined solo voices and choral ensemble. ...in Tubéry's recording of Charpentier's Messe pour plusieurs instruments au lieu orgues. ...flutes, recorders, oboes, bassoon, serpent, and a specially created bass oboe - a 'basse de cromhorne' - provide a rich and colourfully diverse instrumental group in addition to a four-part string ensemble with harpsichord.

Tubéry handles proceedings with a deft lightness of touch that encourages a mixture of colour and authoritative restraint. The Namur choir is relaxed and secure: 'In te Domine speravi' lilts suggestively rather than hammering aggressively, confirming the well proportioned elegance in Charpentier's music. These thoughtful performances are splendidly recorded and are warmly recommended.
