September 2004
Although neither melodic invention nor harmonic intrigue reaches the standards of either Mozart or Haydn, there's a sure-fire ebullience to the Allegros and folkdance-like rondos, as well as a beguiling air to the slow movements. Meier plays a gold flute... but his tone is suitably light and carefree when necessary. The rich-toned, rhythmically precise Prague Chamber Orchestra provides a striking start to each concerto in the unusually substantial orchestral preludes.
