… of particular interest as it allows us to hear pre-Lucia Joan Sutherland in her salad days when she sang mostly lyric-dramatic roles. In wonderfully fresh, easy voice and articulating the words in a way one would hardly credit from her late, occluded diction, she gives a lovely performance as the romantic, put-upon heroine. She is suitably partnered by the unjustly forgotten Dutch tenor Franz Vroons, who has the proper ardour and style for Euryanthe's beloved Adolar.
