July 2010
Wagner-wise this is new Solti, a more contemplatively mellow interpreter, returning to a score that he hadn't led since earlier days in German repertoire houses...Norman had worked hard, and the result is cultivated and convincing in scenes of stress...One must admire Domingo's Martinelli and Vinay-like embracing of the fullest possible repertoire
2010
It is Plácido Domingo's achievement singing Lohengrin that the lyrical element blossoms so consistently, with no hint of Heldentenor barking...[Norman] gives a warm, commanding performance, always intense, full of detailed insights...Radiant playing from the Vienna Philharmonic, and committed chorus work too. This is one of the crowning glories of Solti's long recording career.
