About

Maria Barrientos was born on 19-Mar-1884 and became a singer in an age where the abilities of the coloratura soprano aroused the utmost enthusiasm in the opera going public. Although one of the operatic worlds brightest stars she was shy, with an introverted personality that shunned interviews and public life in general.

She died in 1946 having enjoyed a superb international career on three continents, always as the ‘star’ in the company of many of the greatest singers of her generation.
