CRD

CRD was founded by Graham Pauncefort as ‘Continental Record Distributors’ in 1965 to import and distribute specialized Continental and American catalogues. A decade later, CRD took the logical step of starting its own classical catalogue, releasing seminal recordings of much-loved repertoire (Vivaldi’s Four Seasons) and little-known works spanning the instrumental and choral canon.

By 1975, by virtue of Pauncefort’s pioneering leadership and finger on the pulse regarding changing musical tastes, CRD had cemented its reputation as a purveyor of fine classical recordings, known for its artistic integrity, commitment to excellence, and passion for high-quality sound. Fifty years later, CRD continues to build on that legacy—honouring its heritage whilst positioning itself a forward-thinking label of the C21st.

Now run by sibling team Emma and Tom Pauncefort, CRD stands as the world’s oldest family-run and -owned classical label. As it marks its anniversary in 2025 with a fresh brand identity centred around the phrase ‘Classical ReDefined’—a reflection of its commitment to bringing timeless classical music to modern audiences—CRD continues to work with outstanding artists, from emerging British consort Selene to the trailblazing violin and accordion duo Iwo and Karolina to pianist Inbar Rothschild to mezzo soprano Joanna Harries and contralto Jess Dandy. Our next 50 years will be firmly focused on building artists' careers one release at a time and bringing the joy of classical music to audiences old and new in innovative ways.
