The Italian conductor and recorder-player Giovanni Antonini was born in Milan in 1965, where he trained at the Civica scuola di Musica and founded the period-instrument ensemble Il Giardino Armonico in 1985; their many award-winning recordings include the complete Mozart violin concertos with Isabelle Faust (‘these wonderful performances have the air of chamber music’ – Gramophone), Serrpent and Fire with soprano Anna Prohaska, the smash-hit Vivaldi Album and Sacrificium with Cecilia Bartoli (which both won Grammys), and Vivaldi’s Ottone in Villa as part of Naïve’s mammoth Vivaldi Edition.
