Described by Bayerische Rundfunk as ‘the queen of the baroque oboe’, Xenia Löffler was born in Bavaria in 1972 and trained in Basel and The Hague; in 2001 she was appointed principal oboe of the Akademie für Alte Musik, with whom she has recorded Platti’s Concerti Grossi after Corelli and Venice: The Golden Age (a collection of concertos by Tessarini, Marcello, Giovanni Porta and Vivaldi), as well as joining Isabelle Faust for JS Bach’s Concerto for Oboe and Violin.

Her discography also includes JS Bach concertos with Collegium 1704, Graun concertos and Sonatas from the Dresden Pisendel Collection and Oboe Concerti at the Dresden Court with the Batzdorfer Hofkapelle (all on Accent), Franz Xaver Richter’s Oboe Concerto with Capricornus Consort Basel (which won an Opus Klassik Award in 2018), and Handel: My Favourite Instrument, which won praise from Early Music Review for her ‘faultless breath-control’.
