The Chinese-American pianist Eric Lu was born in Bedford, Massachusetts in 1997, and began playing the piano at the age of six; he studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, and his teachers include Jonathan Biss, Đặng Thái Sơn and Robert McDonald. Following impressive early showings at the XVII International Chopin Piano Competition in 2015 and the Moscow International Fryderyk Chopin Competition for Young Pianists, Lu came to international prominence in September 2018 when he took first prize and the Terence Judd-Hallé Orchestra Prize at the Leeds International Piano Competition; immediately afterwards he was signed by Warner Classics and Askonas Holt, and a recording of his winning performance of Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto (with Edward Gardner and The Hallé) was released on Warner in November 2018.

On 20th October, Eric Lu was crowned winner of the 19th Chopin Competition, out of eighty-four performers from nineteen countries, and Deutsche Grammophon has announced a digital single for 24th October, when pre-orders for a celebratory album will also begin.
